Project Update

  • Travis Electric has finished Phase 2 installations to connect customers to the new fiber optic network. If you are a customer in rural Dell Rapids or Trent who had fiber buried to your home and have not had a service visit to connect your home to fiber, please call 1-855-888-7777. Member services will assist you with scheduling an installation appointment with a Golden West Field Services technician.

Project Update

  • All splicing and testing is complete for all cables in the Dell Rapids Rural project. Travis Electric will continue to schedule and complete Phase 2 installations until all customers are connected to the new fiber optic system.
  • Travis Electric will have crews working in another area for Golden West for the last two weeks in March. They will resume work in rural Dell Rapids in April. If you have questions about scheduling, please call 1-855-888-7777 and ask for the engineering department.

  • During final stage of the project, customers will receive a letter notifying them that their home or business is ready to be upgraded and that they should expect a call from Travis Electric to schedule the Phase 2 installation. If you have not yet received your letter, Golden West is still working on the steps to get your location ready for the upgrade. This work should be completed in the next several days.
  • Travis Electric is nearly finished scheduling Phase 2 wiring appointments on the west side of the project area. They will begin calling customers on the east side of the exchange next.

  • One crew burying lines to customer homes will be working on 240th Street east of Trent. The second crew will be working on 475th and 476th Avenues and 239th and 240th Streets.

  • The crew burying lines to customer homes will be working from 479th and 480th Avenues and 242nd and 243rd Streets.
  • Mastec will have three crews plowing main line fiber. Two of the crews will be plowing to meet up on 473rd Avenue along streets 239th to 242nd. The third work area will be west of Trent on 240th and 241st Streets and 474th to 477th Avenues.

  • Approximately one third of the customers in the rural part of Dell Rapids have lines (drops) buried to their homes. In the coming weeks, Travis Electric will begin scheduling Phase 2 wiring appointments. During this phase, an installer will visit the customer premise to connect the service to the new fiber infrastructure. This step is known as cutover.   • Two crews will be burying lines to customers. MasTec’s crew is plowing lines to customers on 249th through 247th Streets and 481st to 479st Avenues. The May Construction crew will be finishing work in Trent next week.
  • Mastec will have three crews plowing main line fiber. One crew will be east of Trent, working from 477th and 478th Avenues along 240th to 238th Streets. The second crew will be burying fiber from 474th to 476th Avenues on 242nd St. The third crew will working on 244th and 245th Streets between 479th and 481st Avenues.

September 30, 2020

  • Mastec will have two crews plowing main line fiber. One crew will finish working on Jasper Street about a mile out of Dell Rapids, then move to work between 241st and 242nd Streets and 475 through 477th Avenues. The second crew will be plowing in rural Trent on 239th  and 240th Streets between 477th and 480th Avenues.
  • Two crews will be burying lines to customers. MasTec’s crew is nearly finished plowing lines to customers on 250th Street. They will move on to 247th through 249th Streets between 477th and 482th Avenues. The May Construction crew will work in Trent, finishing up on the south side of town, then moving to the west side.

 September 23, 2020

  • Mastec will have two crews plowing main line fiber. Crew #1 will be working back toward Trent from 240th Street and 481st Avenue. Crew #2 will be working on 479th Avenue down to Jasper Street and then will turn and head west to Dell Rapids.
  • Two crews will be burying lines to customers. The first crew will be working south of Jasper Street near 478th and 479th Avenues. The second crew will be burying lines to customer premises in the area from 247th to 250th Streets and 479th to 482nd Avenues.

Project Update

  • There is a lot of construction activity going on in rural Dell Rapids and Trent. In addition to the work listed below, customers may see fiber splicers working in the area, as well as a crew boring through rock to install underground duct through which fiber will be pulled.
  • A few customers who have recently ordered service will be getting a call from Travis Electric about installing a box on their home. They will return to complete Phase 2 inside wiring after the fiber optic lines have been buried, spliced, and tested.
  • One MasTec crew plowing lines to individual customer homes is working east of Dell Rapids on Jasper, 481st, 482nd, and 483rd Streets and 244th and 245th Avenues.
  • A second crew plowing to customer premises is working in the town of Trent, and is approximately one-third done.
  • One crew plowing main line fiber will be working from 478th through 482nd Streets from 246th to 247th  Avenues.
  • The second main line fiber crew is working on 479th Avenue between 242nd and 244th Streets.

 

September 9, 2020
Project Update

  • Travis Electric has completed installing boxes (clamshells) on customer premises. They will return to complete Phase 2 inside wiring after the fiber optic lines have been buried, spliced, and tested.
  • Crews will be returning to work on Thursday after time off over the Labor Day weekend and a rain day on Wednesday.
  • The crew plowing lines to individual customer homes has a few addresses to finish up near 241st Street and 472nd Avenue, then will move east of Dell Rapids to work on 481st through 484th Streets on Jasper Avenue.
  • The main line crew will be working from 481st to 478th Streets from 249th to 246th Avenues. They will move from south to north.
  • A crew will be drilling and laying duct through rock on 471st Ave between 245th and 246th Streets. They have a second rock bore to do east of Dell Rapids on Jasper Street.

September 3, 2020

  • Travis Electric has completed installing boxes (clamshells) on customer premises. They will return to complete inside wiring after the fiber optic lines have been buried, spliced, and tested.
  • Crews will be taking scheduled time off over the holiday weekend. They will resume construction on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 8th.
  • Next week, MasTec’s crew constructing the main fiber line will be moving south from 248th St. and 478th Ave. to 250th St. and 481st Ave.
  • The drop crew plowing lines to individual customers is working on Jasper Avenue, working back toward Dell Rapids from 484th to 481st Streets.
  • On September 14th, May Construction will begin plowing cable in the town of Trent.

August 26, 2020

  • Travis Electric has completed installing boxes (clamshells) on customer premises. Anyone in rural Dell Rapids or Trent that has current Golden West service and does not yet have a clamshell installed or who would like to have a fiber optic line providing service to their premise should call Golden West at 1-855-888-7777.
  • The MasTec crew constructing the main fiber line is working in the area from 250th St. and 478th Ave., moving north toward 248th St. and 481st Ave.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes and businesses is working on 242nd St. and 469th Ave, moving toward 240th St. and 472nd Ave.

  • Travis Electric has completed installing boxes (clamshells) on customer premises. They will return to complete inside wiring after the fiber optic lines have been buried, spliced, and tested. Scheduling for this second phase of wiring could begin as early as mid-September.
  • MasTec’s crew constructing the main fiber line is working on Jasper St. and 481st Ave. headed west toward Dell Rapids.
  • MasTec has a second crew boring and laying pipe underground between 479th and 480th Avenues on 242nd St. toward Trent.
  • The crew constructing drops to individual customers is working on 243rd St heading north on 478th Ave.

  • Travis Electric has hung clamshells on all premises except those customers who have recently signed up for service. These customers will be getting calls to schedule a time to complete this installation.
  • Mastec’s crew constructing the main fiber line is finishing on 242nd St between 469th and 470th Avenues. They will move toward 240th St.
  • The crew plowing lines to individual customers will be working on 246th and 248th Streets, going north on Burk and 469th and 470th Avenues.

Project Update

  • Travis Electric has a few customers left before they complete the first of two phases on the wiring needed to prepare homes and businesses to be ready to connect to fiber. Rural Dell Rapids and Trent customers who haven’t been contacted should call 1-888-855-7777 and ask for the Engineering Department.
  • The crew constructing drops or lines to individual customer premises, will be working from 249th St and 469th Ave, headed north, starting early next week.
  • Mastec has two crews plowing larger main line cable on 241st and 243rd Streets. One crew is moving south and the other is moving north. They expect to meet on 242nd St. in the coming week.

July 22, 2020

Project Update

  • Phase One wiring of homes and businesses in rural Dell Rapids and Trent exchange is nearly completed. All locations should have a box or clamshell mounted on the exterior of the building. This fall Travis Electric will return to the premises of customers with active service to complete Phase Two wiring. They will call customers to make an appointment to come inside the home or business to install equipment, then disconnect the service provided on the copper lines and connect the service to the new fiber optic lines.
  • Mastec and their subcontractors have crews working on the west side of I-29 between 246th St. and 240th St.
  • Crews will begin plowing lines to individual customers (drops) by the end of this week. They will begin with 247th St. and Burk Ave.

 

July 15, 2020

Project Update

  • Travis Electric will continue to install clamshells, or boxes, on the outside of customer premises this week. They are nearly finished with this stage of the project, so if you have Golden West service and you live in rural Dell Rapids or Trent, please call 1-855-888-7777 and ask for the engineering department if you do not yet have a clamshell.
  • MasTec has three crews working on plowing larger mainline fiber optic cable. One crew is working northward on 471st Ave. near 246th St., a second is working near 240th St. going south on 472nd Ave., and the third crew is working in Trent in the northeast corner of town.

Project Update

  • Travis Electric is nearly finished with hanging clamshells on subscriber homes and businesses in rural Dell Rapids and Trent. If you are a current customer who lives in this area and you don’t have a clamshell yet, please call 1-855-888-7777 and ask for the engineering department.  If you are not yet a customer and would like to have a fiber connection, now is a great time to call Golden West to place an order!
  • Mainline construction is ongoing in the southwest part of the exchange. Another crew is working on boring (drilling below the surface while installing pipe) near 240th St. and 472nd  Ave., working their way south.

Project Update

  • Travis Electric is nearly done hanging clamshells. If you have Golden West service in Trent or rural Dell Rapids and don’t have a clamshell, please call 1-855-888-7777 and ask for the engineering department.
  • Construction crews will be off starting Thursday afternoon over the July 4th holiday weekend. They will be back on Monday afternoon, July 6th.
  • Starting July 6th, one crew will be working in Trent and another crew will be working southwest of Dell Rapids.

Project Update

  • Travis Electric is nearly finished with hanging clamshells in Trent. If your home or business doesn’t have a clamshell, please call Golden West at 1-855-888-7777 and ask for the engineering department.
  • They have started clamshell wiring at rural addresses on the west side of the exchange and are working their way east.
  • Construction crews are plowing on 247th St moving east toward Dell Rapids.
